Project Title: Phase 2 – Rehabilitate Northern Lakes Habitat (FFS #R3UE)

State: Wisconsin

Project Description: The Midwest Glacial Lakes Partnership and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, under the guidance of the National Fish Habitat Action Plan (NFHAP), completed a habitat rehabilitation project in the Fall 2011 with $24,000 in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The funding supported this multi-partner effort to replenish large woody habitat in the shoreline area of lakes located in northwest Wisconsin.

The project successfully met the objective to replenish large woody habitat in shoreline areas that have been lost due to development and past logging practices. NFHAP partners worked with private landowners to place and anchor trees along lake shores in the Eau Claire Chain of Lakes, reducing erosion and benefitting native and sport fish species.

NFHAP is a national investment strategy to maximize the impact of conservation dollars on the ground. Under NFHAP, Federal, State, Tribal, and privately-raised funds are leveraged through regional partnerships to address the nation’s biggest fish habitat challenges. For anglers, conservation groups, and industry leaders, NFHAP has become an unprecedented rallying point for those committed to conserving America’s fisheries.
