Project Titles:

  • Restore Troutmere Fish Passage (FFS #R3TB)
  • Improve Bad River Fish Passage (FFS #R3UA)

State: Wisconsin

Project Description: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Ashland Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office in Wisconsin has completed two projects using $105,000 in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. These vital restoration efforts resulted in major fish passage improvements and sediment reductions on the Bad River and Troutmere Creek. The Bad River portion of the project was complete in September 2010 and the Troutmere Creek portion was done in August 2011. Both are tributaries of Lake Superior and provide important habitat for native aquatic species including lake sturgeon and brook trout.

The project on the Bad River will help reduce sediment inputs and provide fish passage to historic spawning sites. The Bad River and its tributaries form a large watershed within the Lake Superior basin and contain diverse fish populations, including brook trout and lake sturgeon. The Troutmere Creek Fish Passage Restoration project will also restore fish passage for aquatic species.
