Need

The Taos Plateau Transportation Area covers 255,000 acres of public lands in Taos County and northeast Rio Arriba County. The roads and trails data base will be updated to:

  • include routes not previously mapped,
  • identify primary road maintenance needs,
  • take action on roads identified for closure,
  • sign entry points,
  • number and mark the open primary and primitive roads and trails, and
  • update BLM produced maps.

Recovery Act Funding

Work will be accomplished with contract(s) and temporary and term hires.

Benefits

This trails maintenance and construction project will improve travel on public lands for the visiting public, resource damage will be lessened, and long-term maintenance costs reduced.
